The aim of the following pages are to enable any interested reader gain a bird's eye view of the situation in the diocese of West Buganda and its more urgent problems. What has been written here is by no means exhaustive; it is rather hoped that information given in on these pages will stir up sufficient interest in its readers to move them to take action to assist the diocese to get out of its current state. We recognise our limitations and handicaps at dealing with many of the problems highlighted here, and welcome any assistance and ideas sincerely given in an attempt at solving them. A casual glance through these pages will reveal a wide range of activities, which if properly tackled will transform the spiritual and material welfare of our communities. Spiritual backsliding has been steadily growing over the last twenty years reaching crisis point with an upsurge in devil worshipping, ritual murders, immoral living, sexual violence and crime in general. Society is paying a heavy price in form of disease and an unusually heavy load of orphaned children, plus a host of other attendant problems that result from disruption of normal life patterns. We have made a careful assessment of our capacity. To achieve meaningful spiritual regeneration, to successfully confront problems in education, health, environmental protection, agriculture and animal husbandry, and to be in a position to tackle the orphans' problem with a measurable impact, we need a helping hand. With due humility, I would like to thank in advance all people of good will whose hearts the Lord may touch as a result of reading these pages, to make a commitment to assist us in carrying out this work in the diocese.
